5 SOLDIERS- The Body Is the Frontline

After spending a lengthy period researching the physicality of war, joining The 4th Battalion The Rifles ( 4 Rifles) on exercises and working with patients at Headley Court, Rosie Kay creates a brand new work of startling physicality, expression and drama exploring modern issues surrounding warfare.
The Body is the Frontline shows that despite religious and cultural differences, technological advances and historical progressions we still use the threat of violence to settle modern problems. It is still the body that is used as both the weapon and the target in today’s modern warfare.
The frontline today is the body- the bodies of soldiers, the bodies of the enemy, the bodies of innocent casualties. War is a physical action that affects our bodies. 5 SOLDIERS- The Body is the Frontline shows that war is human.Premiere April 2010 International Dance Festival Birmingham
Double Points: K

Double Points: K is based on collaboration with International choreographer Emio Greco. The two dancers appear to share one mind and two bodies as they dance to a contrasting mix of Bach Concerto in A minor, Dub Step and Electronica. The physical effort is visible, but they never allow their attention to drop for one second and they literally dance themselves to the edge.

Supernova

Supernova is a work for five stunning female dancers, who swirl, run, and leap their way through explorations of time, space and energy. The dancers show us moments of chaos and togetherness; bursts of great energy and spells of stillness. As in Double Points: K the dancers are tested to their limits, running in headlong flight, balancing precariously and even gently humming- all actions that show how sound and vibration is key to our existence. The soundtrack shifts between astral chimes, gongs and throbs, segments of Vivaldi’s Concerto Grosse in D minor and ends in intense drum and bass
